How to Stay in Touch With Your Camp Friends

The school year is in full swing and camp has been over for more than a month. The sunscreen and bathing suits are back in the closet and have been replaced with school supplies and homework. Most importantly, our campers are back to being students. The beginning of the school year is often filled with mixed emotions: you are sad the summer is coming to an end, but also excited to enter a new grade and learn new things. You get to shop for new clothes, meet all your new teachers and get reacquainted with old friends!
After the first few weeks, you might find yourself longing for days at camp and missing the friends you made over the summer. Your camp friends are friends for life.  Although school may represent a time that we may not necessarily be able to see our camp friends as much, the bonds we have created will last a lifetime!
How can we stay in touch with friends that are not a part of our daily interactions, especially when schedules are crowded between school, work, and extracurricular activities?
Thanks to the amazing wonders of modern technology, we can quite easily keep in contact with friends around the corner or across the country. For young people with a cell phone or internet access, it’s as simple as sending a text or email. In addition to seeing friends online, attempt to plan an actual face to face get together with friends that live close by. For our younger campers who may not have internet access, encourage them to go the “old fashion” route and pick up the phone or write a letter. It is such an awesome feeling opening your mailbox and receiving a hand written letter from a friend or even just hearing their voice on the phone!
Many Camp NAC campers also take classes during the school year here at the Newtown Athletic Club. Getting involved in youth programs at the NAC are a great way to stay in touch with camp friends and even counselors! Imagine being able to see your camp friends every week in a sports, gymnastics or dance class.
Finally, Camp NAC offers many fun events in Bucks County throughout the school year. Whether you’re spending your days off from school hanging out with your camp friends in a School’s Out Camp or spending a whole night with them at a camp sleepover, just because the summer is over doesn’t mean you have to miss the Camp NAC fun!
No matter how you stay in touch, remember to keep close contact with your camp friends until the summer rolls around again.  It will be here before you know it and we can’t wait.
Have a happy, safe, and easy start to the school year!
