Keeping Young Minds Active and Educationally Engaged all Summer Long!

Written by: Colin Hayburn
Many young students look forward to the long days of summer vacation and being able to celebrate the break of being away from a classroom environment. Although this is true, straying away from a structured learning environment during the summer months can ultimately lead to developmental regression. According to education experts such as those working for the After School Alliance, “evidence shows that students who are not actively engaged in summer camp programs that implement a creative and educational environment for its young campers, can take a major toll on overall academic performance once the school year starts back up.”  Camp NAC’s focus is to offer a unique summer experience for all campers to be engaged in a variety of programs that incorporate athletics, health and nutrition, arts and crafts, and especially education in which students can carry their experiences with them into the start of the school year.

Campers aged 3-15 love spending their summer in our beautiful facility, featuring an outdoor water park where we offer half and full day camps throughout the summer. Camp NACster, our traditional camp, is a full day camp where campers participate in games, trips, crafts, and more. We offer specialty camps for both half day (ages 3-5) and full day (ages 6-12) campers. Our teen programs for campers aged 12-15 include a variety of themes to choose from while also attending field trips on Wednesdays and Fridays. Campers have the opportunity to gain unforgettable experiences and are able to develop skills that make them successful in the class room while also helping the interaction between peers. Our specialty options include sports, cooking, and technology.

Our vast variety of camp themes incorporate many facets of STEM; science, technology, engineering and math into the camp curriculum, which keeps our young camper’s minds educationally engaged. The STEM based activities focus on critical thinking skills where campers engage in challenges each week, conduct science experiments, gain team building skills, and participate in exploration activities. An example of one of our very popular camp themes The Escape Room, incorporates challenges and teamwork. Campers will work together to solve clues, crack codes, and solve problems in a timely manner. The well-rounded staff at Camp NAC all undergo a multistep hiring process and are actively prepared for all campers due to the extensive training program. We pride ourselves on facilitating an environment which eliminates summer learning loss and provides parents the reassurance that their children are participating in productive, active, creative, and educational summer activities.
