Counselor In Training Camp FAQ

Each day of your program, campers will be assigned to work with another camp as a CIT. All summer assignments provide training, the opportunity to work with children and to enhance leadership ability. After lunch, as a group CITs will have a quick lesson and activity based on that week’s theme and end the day playing games and swimming in our new outdoor complex!

How will the observation period work?
In the mornings, we will meet as a group where each CIT will be assigned a specific camp to work with, assignments typically remain the same throughout the duration of the week. It is during this time CITs will observe counselors and interact with campers. The CIT counselor will meet with each CIT to discuss their experience during the observation period.
How is the program evaluated?
CITs will be evaluated by their supervising counselor as well as the CIT Manager on the basis of their interaction with the campers and their ability to communicate with peers, superiors and campers daily.  Each Wednesday and Thursday, CITs will plan an activity to implement with their campers on Friday of that week. They may do so in a small group with their peers or individually.
What should I bring/ wear?
Each day CITs should bring a lunch (nut-product free), snack, bathing suit, and water bottle. CITs should wear comfortable clothing and shoes that allow for activity participation. Your CIT t-shirt is recommended daily but only required to be worn on Wednesdays for field trips.
Are CITs guaranteed employment pending their completion of the program?
Success in the CIT program is an important qualification in seeking employment as a youth leader, including at our own camp. We do expect that some participants who excel in our CIT program will become part of our camp staff, once they reach the age of 16, but it is in no way guaranteed.
Do CITs go on all field trips with their campers?
If NACster is going on a field trip then the CITs are too! All CITs will go on all field trips pending their return of the permission slip. (This means your CIT will attend the field trip even if the specific camp they are assigned to is not attending.)
How do pick up and drop off work?
CITs may walk themselves in and out of the NAC without a parent IF the parent signs the Pick Up/Drop Off waiver on the back of this sheet. CITs may not bring any other siblings with them and may not use express car pickup/drop off. Please remind CITs that this is a privilege that may be revoked at any time at the discussion of a supervisor.
How can I contact my camper during the day?
Please contact 215.986.8600 x 155 to reach the Camp Department. Send any questions/inquiries regarding your camper to the CIT Manager, Kelsey Brown, at kelsey@campnac.com.
