Why Camp NAC LITs are Important for Campers
Here at Camp NAC, we take pride in our Leader in Training program. Campers ages 12-15 have the opportunity to attend Camp NAC and learn exactly what it takes to become a camp counselor, along with other valuable life skills. Each morning, our LITs are assigned a group of younger campers and shadow the counselor of that group. The LITs observe the counselors and are even given valuable tips and pointers of the best way to interact with the children. They are even given one activity a day to facilitate themselves.
Some of our LIT themes include:
- Team Building
- Community Service
- Babysitting
- Money Management
- Jr. Life Guarding
- Cooking
- Jr. 1st Aid and CPR
- Leadership
Throughout the summer, our LITs will learn all of these important life skills along with many others! During the week of Babysitting, they even became officially Red Cross certified in Babysitting. Also, during Jr. Life Guarding and Jr. 1st Aid and CPR they will be taught lessons and simulate how to handle hazardous with our American Red Cross certified lifeguards here at the NAC.
Some of our LITs love spending each week helping the younger campers and learning all about what is expected of a camp counselor here at Camp NAC. One favorite part of being an LIT is being a helping hand whenever his counselors or campers need help with something. LITs are phenomenal at interacting with our younger campers.
Camp NAC loves having our LITs just as much as they love being here! Many of our LITs hope to one day become a camp counselor themselves!
Being an LIT is not all work! During the second half of each day, the LITs get to join their Teen Travel Camp friends and have a fun-filled experience as a camper! Also, every Wednesday, LITs attend the same field trip as our NACster campers, for free!
We love having our Camp NAC LITs throughout the summer because of how helpful they are and how they are such great leaders for our younger campers.
