2016 Summer Camp Trends
With the interests of campers constantly changing, parents are always looking for the newest and latest trends for their summer plans. 2016 brings some new summer camp trends in addition to some past tried and true camper favorites that are here to stay!
At Camp NAC, our camp leadership team works hard year-round to continue bringing our camp families the latest trends in camps. We are on top of the 2016 summer camp trends for this upcoming summer and can’t wait for our new camps & programs. See what’s new and on-trend at Camp NAC this summer:
Healthy Dining Options: With the country’s obesity rates constantly on the rise, camps that offer healthy dining options are one of this year’s biggest summer camp trends. At Camp NAC, we are located at the Newtown Athletic Club, one of the nation’s top health clubs. After hearing parents asking for healthier lunch options, our leadership team consulted with the NAC’s Registered Dietitian to revamp the camp lunch menu. Fitness: Many camps are working harder than ever to incorporate fitness into the regular camp day. While most camps offer traditional sports games that engage children in physical activity, finding a camp that has a variety of activities and programs centered around fitness is important. Whether it is introducing children to the importance of nutrition, or showing that exercise can be fun, camp directors are realizing the importance of encouraging fitness at a young age. Interest-based Camps: Specialty camps that cater to campers’ individual interests have been extremely successful in numerous camps across the country. There are many different types of specialty camps but the goal is to focus on a developing a particular skill or interest. Whether your child is interested in cooking, sports, science, or animals, there is a camp program that will provide a unique and unforgettable experience. “Our one-week programs allow children to fully engage and connect with their peers who share similar interests,” explains Camp NAC director, Amanda Brown. Flexible Camp Schedules: Many camp directors are seeing a trend of parents demanding a more flexible camp schedule to fit into their busy summers. Traditionally, summer camps have been offered only as six, eight, or ten week blocks. With vacations and scattered schedules becoming increasingly popular in the summer months, many camps have switched their schedules to a pay-per-week model. “Our camp parents love that we offer the ability to enroll only in the weeks they choose,” explains Amanda Brown, director of Camp NAC, located in Newtown, PA. “This flexibility appeals to parents, and also offers campers the ability to experience a variety of programs offered within one summer camp.”
Tutoring: It’s no secret that parents love seeing their children succeed. According to the National Summer Learning Association, “Most students lose about two months of grade level equivalency in mathematical computation skills over the summer months.” Camp NAC is working to help our campers stay on top of their schoolwork with the new Summer Enrichment Program. Campers will get help from our certified teachers on staff with summer packets and play fun trivia games and brain teasers in this after-camp program.
If you are looking for the perfect place for your camper to spend Summer 2016, look no further than Camp NAC.
