How can outdoor play benefit children?
There are not many things in today’s world that can help the younger generation more than outdoor play. By encouraging the kids of today to spend more and more time outside will ultimately give them the greatest chance of improving their future health and wellness.
Outdoor play is critical for children in the early childhood stage. There are developmental tasks that children must gain to help them progress. Exploring, risk-taking, proper motor skills development and absorbing all basic knowledge. All these tasks and skills can be learned through outdoor play. With the increasing use of phones, computers and technology use this is impacting the amount of time children are spending outside and not gaining the proper attributes to help them as they grow. On average, American children spend four to seven minutes a day in unstructured outdoor play compared to seven or more hours in front of a screen. This statistic should be concerning because outdoor play is becoming a thing of the past. It’s important to allow your child as much outdoor play as possible because of all the benefits it provides.
Here at Camp NAC we provide children the opportunity to explore, experiment and push their limits to discover everything they can achieve. Our camp programs encourage outdoor play, whether its an obstacle course, swimming, gaga, or spending time on the outdoor playground. Throughout the camp year the children will have hours of free play which will aid in the improvement of their physical health, socialization skills, and their ability to discover their self as well as the environment around them. Outdoor play can have profound benefits on young as well as older children. We challenge you to take a break from technology to go outside and create some awesome memories with your children.
