Summer 2020: What to Expect at Camp

As we navigate the evolving realities of COVID-19 and the reopening of our camp, we are looking ahead to what the future may look like for us. Our teams are working tirelessly to be ready for whatever comes next, but we will continue to update and change based on the direction provided by the American Camp Association, CDC and federal, state, and local government. Amenities and programs will depend on their guidance.

For the duration of Governor Wolf’s Phase 2 plans, we are enhancing our spaces, activities and daily schedules, to protect the well-being of our campers and their families.

The following updates will be implemented during the month of June:

NEW STRUCTURE

We have expanded camp space to include all 26 acres of the NAC campus, inside and out. This includes, usage of the brown gym, boutique fitness studios & youth programs area. All activities that can be outside will be. Click here to download our sample schedule. Campers will be swimming at Escape Resort and have access to the playground during camp.

For the safety of our children the following activities have been eliminated in June: gymnastics lessons & field trips.

MODIFIED THEMES

For the first month of camp, there will be limited camp themes available.

  • NACster Full Day (ages 3-12)
  • NACster Half Day (ages 3-5 only)
  • Leaders in Training (LIT) Full Day (ages 12-15)
  • Sports, Strength and Speed Camp (ages 10-14)

All programs – will include scheduled time for school work, swimming at the resort, outside activities, hourly hand-washing, staggered lunch times & limited use of supplies. Programs will be re-evaluated for July and August.

SMALL GROUPS

We are limiting the amount of campers in each group, while taking advantage of the size of our facility. Switching groups during the month of June is not permitted.

New Camper/Counselor Ratios: Campers ages 3-5 will be in groups of 6 campers to 1 counselor. Campers ages 6+ will be in groups of 8 campers and 1 counselor.

PERSONAL BELONGINGS

Upon arrival, campers will be assigned to their own cubby to put their belongings for the week. Their name will be labeled on it. Campers will also be given their own supplies during each activity to avoid any cross contamination.

Sun Protection: Parents/guardians will be responsible for applying the first layer of sunscreen prior to camp. Spray on sunscreen is the only type of sunscreen permitted on campus.

LUNCHES & SNACKS

We will no longer be providing lunch or snacks for purchase during the month of June. All campers should bring a non-perishable nut-free lunch, snack and beverage to camp daily.

Lunch times will be staggered more to increase spatial distancing. We will have 1 snack period daily during regular camp times.

HEALTH & SAFETY

To maintain hygiene, safety and physical distancing best practices, we’ve implemented cleaning & service updates to our program — including, hand hygiene training, systematic temperature checks and staff appointed “Health Guards.”

We also created a new cleaning and disinfection strategy with enhanced cleaning products & technology. Click here to download our safety protocols.
